Lisboa I

A while back I found a curious book written by an author I knew, John Berger, he is well known as an art critic but I had never read any fiction by him. This book is called Here Is Where We Meet and it sat in a dark corner of a forgotten shelf in my room until a friend pointed out that one of the chapters was set in Lisbon, and she read out loud some of the descriptions the author makes of the city. And I was hooked. The author tells these amazing stories about places (cities, plazas, etc) and the power they have to awaken vivid memories even when you are actually seeing those places for the first time. This is how I saw it anyway. And it sent me on my way to a long series of drawings of my own memories of lovely Lisboa.

I Like Dripdrawing and I Cannot Lie

Just a few examples to show how most of my things start - big scale, in series, with a lot of glossy thick enamel dripping from a stick. I love working like this, it allows me to play with the unintentional and the instinctive.
